Introduction to a Dog Lover

Hi Class!

My name is Paulina Pany, I’m a senior here at OU. I’m majoring in Creative Media Production and minoring in Communication. I love my major and I love working on anything related to film, television, radio and media. Right now, I am an intern at Ackerman McQueen, an advertising agency in Oklahoma City and I really enjoy it there.  I chose this major because I’ve always wanted to get into producing and media. When I was little I used to write plays, that were not very good to be completely honest, and I would perform them for my family – well I would force them to watch. At that time, the prime age of 3, I was determined to be an actress but we lived in a small town so there wasn’t much to offer except dance classes to my mom enrolled me in a few classes. I haven’t stopped dancing since.

Dancing has been a passion of mine for a very long time. I’ve been dancing for 18 years and I was an officer on my team for 2 years. I trained at Artistry in Motion, formerly known as Pat Riddle School of Dance. After I graduated high school I went on to join MA’s Dance staff, which has been incredible opportunity because this job allowed me to travel all over the U.S. to teach and share what I love. When I was in high school, I still had the acting bug so I took some acting classes and I was given the opportunity to work as an extra in a movie. The movie is called Bad Kids Go to Hell, the role wasn’t anything huge but it was so exciting to see how movies are filmed. That’s actually when I realized I didn’t want to be in front of the camera, but behind the camera. A few years later, when I was a sophomore year here at OU, I was also given the opportunity to work on the set of Pitch Perfect 2, which just confirmed my love for film making even more. Getting to meet the cast was and will always be the highlight of my life. Sadly, I don't have any pictures from either of the film sets because they are very strict about information and images getting leaked.

Lastly, I have a one-year-old Shih Tzu, who is my pride and joy. His name is Princeton and I am completely powerless around him. Aside from dancing and hanging out with my dog, I enjoy reading, writing, hanging out with my friends, and I love eating. I’m a huge “foodie.”

I hope you enjoyed getting to know me. Have a good one!

  1. Hello, Paulina, this is a fellow CMP major, Collin! I also enjoy consuming and understanding the form of various media, and would like to convey fictional stories, though have not dabbled in as much fictional writing as gaining practical skills. Kinda jealous you got to work on sets so intimately; get that experience no one else gets. :)

I've also become more of a dog person with more representation of dogs in video games, like in Pokemon and Undertale. We have six dogs in our family: four English Bulldogs and two Golden Retrievers, all wonderfully eager.

Hope we can get along well this semester!

  2. Hey Paulina!
Nice to have class with you again! We haven't had a lot of one-on-one time, so I'm excited to get to know you through your writing and our interaction in this class. I knew you danced, through my Facebook snooping, but I had no idea it was such a huge part of your life. It's amazing that you were able to travel because of your dancing ability. I'm super jealous you got to be on a real life movie set. That's something I dream of doing one day. Your dog is adorable - I see lots of him on my news feed. We can definitely bond over food. I am usually stuffing my face when I'm not at work or school. I'm sure I'll see you around Gaylord lots this semester. Good luck!

  3. Oh, that is so cool that you are into dance, Paulina! Dance is a big part of the folklore tradition, and as such it also shows up as a theme in the stories too, where you read about dancers and dancing. That could even be a fun topic to work on for a project in this class, looking at famous fairy tales and folktales that involve dancing. One of the the most famous is the Twelve Dancing Princesses: do you know that one? It's fun! And of course there are so many wonderful legends about dogs too (your little Princeton is such a cutie!), so between the dogs and the dancing, I hope you will find lots of stories to entertain and inspire you this semester! :-)

  4. Hey Paulina! I think it's great you have so much experience in your field already, interning at an ad agency and having two different movie roles must look good an a resume haha. Anyways, I'm glad your passion for dancing paid off with becoming part of MA Dance, sounds very fun to be able to travel around the country and teach people.

  5. Hey Paulina! Your life is SO exciting! It's so awesome that you were able to discover what you enjoyed at such a young age! I am a senior and I still have no idea what I really want to do! I am so jealous of you getting to see Pitch Perfect 2 behind the scenes! That is so cool! How did you come across that opportunity?

  6. Hey Paulina, your dog looks awesome! I wish I could own a dog, but unfortunately I'm allergic to them...oh well. Besides that, I think it's great that you're so passionate about what you want to do in life and that you have so much background experience in the arts. I've never been on the set of a movie before, it must've been a really cool, unforgettable experience. How did you land the movie role? I'm glad to meet another "foodie" because I love trying new food all the time.

  7. That is so exciting that you got to go work on the set of pitch perfect 2! I too am a dog lover and have a 10 year old lab-pit mix (Emily) and 2 year old Chihuahua named Bugster. They are the best of friends and the little one always naps on top of Emily. I wish I could dance but I have 2 left feet. I was in dance when I was younger for about three years but switched to Figure skating and enjoyed that more. I too am a foodie and love trying new things!

  8. You are such a cool person, Paulina! I was so interested reading your entire Introduction! I think your experience with dancing is amazing, and that is fun that you found an opportunity to teach hat you love. I also think that it is awesome that you got to meet the cast of Pitch Perfect 2! Oh yeah, your little doggy is so precious! I am also a fellow foodie. Food is the best!

  9. Oh my gosh that's amazing!!! I can't believe you got to meet the cast of Pitch Perfect 2!!! Pitch Perfect was one of my favorite movies. Really cool to hear that you like film too! I have a friend who's a film major too. Also, your dog is absolutely adorable!!! So tiny and cute! I also really love food and cooking! Making delicious food and then eating it is the best.

  10. It's so cute that you used to write and perform little plays! I used to write little stories and ask my friends to read them. I guess it worked out for me similar to how it did for you, because now I'm an Advertising major and write copy all the time. It's really cool that you're interning at an agency, too, I'm jealous!

  11. Hi Paulina,
I am too a dog lover – so nice to meet another one! Your dog is ADORABLE.
Creative media sounds so fun, how did you get into that?
I am so jealous you can dance, I can’t whatsoever. You seem like a very well rounded person with a bright future ahead so I’m excited to see where the semester takes us!

  12. Hi! Okay first off I am obsessed with your dog! So cute! I am glad you found your passion and are pursuing it! It sounds like you have definitely had some great opportunities already and I am sure there are many more to come. Pitch Perfect 2 was hilarious, that is so awesome you got to work on the set!

  13. Hey Paulina! I think it's really cool that you want to go into producing and media. Also, you chose a solid minor (my major is communication), so you're ok on my list! Lol
I've never been good at dancing, but I love watching videos where the dancers battle it out, so to speak. When I was in high school I actually did a little bit of break dancing myself. I never won any battles, but it's the thought that counts right?
Also, I understand you're not being able to take pictures with the cast of Pitch Perfect 2. In the military, we call that OPSEC (Operational Security) because you can't let valuable information get out to the public or else there will be some bad consequences for everyone haha.

  14. Nice to meet you! Your dog is so tiny and adorable. Your passion for dancing and acting is really easy to see and I gotta say, I'm envious! You've really done a lot, especially working on the set of Pitch Perfect 2. That sounds like an amazing experience and I'm happy that you were able to do that! Traveling around the US sounded like a great experience.

  15. Hey Paulina! Your opportunities that you have had during high school and college sound amazing. And Pitch Perfect 2? That's so cool, I'm kinda a wee bit obsessed with Pitch Perfect because it's hilarious. I figure experiencing behind the scenes is awesome and very informative. Your dog is adorable, oh my goodness. He's so cute and tiny, I bet he's an absolute joy.
Good luck to you in the future! :)

  16. Hi, Paulina! You have such an amazingly cool story! I also used to write plays and even film them while forcing my family to watch so I can relate to that. :) That is so so so cool that you got to be involved with Pitch Perfect 2! That sounds like the opportunity of a lifetime, so I hope you are presented with many more of those. I also have always wanted to be in front of the screen and was supposed to be in a movie, but had to have knee surgery instead. So I really admire that you were able to be an extra- that's such a neat experience! Lastly, I am absolutely obsessed with your dog Princeton. He is so cute and cuddly! I am thinking about getting a dog after grad school and after seeing how cute yours is, I may have to get a Shih Tzu as well.
It was great to get to know more about you and best of luck this semester and in your future!

  17. Hi Paulina,

How cool that you have all that experience! And how cute are your puppies. My cousin was in Pitch Perfect 2 - I wonder if you guys worked together! Shih Tzu's really are such great dogs. My aunt and uncle have one and they are the most cuddly animals. You seem to have a really cool writing style and I'm looking forward to reading more of your work.

    Sincerely,
    Erin

  18. Hi Paulina!

Oh my gosh, I can’t believe you were an extra on the movie Bad Kids Go to Hell! I actually auditioned for a role in that movie my senior year of high school (I also have been acting most of my life and I was signed with an agency at the time). Sadly, I have not been able to do much acting since coming to OU, but I miss it like crazy. It was such a huge part of my life for so many years. I admire you for pursuing it throughout your college career! If I could go back, I would definitely be an acting major instead of a PR major. Also, your dog is adorable!

  19. Oh my goodness, your dog is so adorable!! I love dogs as well and I have a husky / beagle mix and a yellow lab. You can see pics of my babies in my blog post, “Introduction to an Outgoing Introvert” if you care to! It is really cool that you were able to be an extra in a movie. I used to want to be a singer and / or an actress but alas, I also love food and soda and my voice isn’t as great as it used to be and my eating habits made my body something I’m way too insecure about putting on the television!!! Lol. It was nice getting to know you a little bit.

  20. Hi Paulina! It's so nice to meet you!! I think it's awesome that you're into film production/media! I wish I had a knack for that kind of thing because I too am into that side of the industry. That's why I love watching movies. I could watch actors/actresses in their characters and then interviews to see how they differ from that character and how they transform them. I too thought I'd want to act, but I'm too shy for that ha. A friend of mine that I met through my previous job is an aspiring director and has directed his first film, I didn't get to go on set to be an extra because of my current job. He even has helped in production for some films that were filmed here, like August Osage County, which is awesome. That's amazing you got to be a part of Pitch Perfect 2's production as well!! So lucky and very cool that y'all get the opportunity to participate in some things so huge!
I too am a dog lover! Your dog is so precious! I though about a shitzu after my pekingese passed, because they're so similar but I settled with a corgi! lol. Dogs are just the best! Good luck the rest of this semester & the years to come in the industry!

  21. Hey Paulina it is nice to meet you! I think that it is awesome that you are so artistic and creative. I too would have a hard time being in front of a camera so I am glad that you found what you are best at! Your dog is super cute though. My parents actually have a Shih Tzu and it is a great dog. Also, I can agree with you on the food. I love having great and new meals! Good luck this semester and in your future career.

  22. Hi, Paulina!
If I could go back in time I most definitely would have chosen to do creative media production! But now it’s too late and I’m already stuck with advertising only… which isn’t bad! I just wish I could do both haha. Congrats on your internship! I wonder if one day we will cross paths. On another note, you have the cutest little pup, oh my goodness.

  23. I do not know how but it has taken until week ten for me to finally visit your blog site and I really enjoy the setup you have chosen for the page. Congratulations on your upcoming internship, it certainly sounds like an exciting time for you moving forward. I am actually a dog person myself, so it is always nice to me another dog lover.

  24. Hi Paulina! Very nice to meet you! Your puppy is so cute! I am also a passionate dancer. There is something so thrilling about performing in from of an audience! Lately, though most of my dancing is just for cardio. I still love to go for a night on the town and go dancing, then, too! Also, I would love to see a pic of Princeton, now! What a cute baby!!

  25. It's great to get to know you, Paulina! Your major sounds awesome. I've always thought working in a movie, even behind the scenes, would be so much fun. I hope you get to work in more movies, as it seems like you really love that. Dancing I can agree it so amazing, but you're probably much better at it than I am. Good luck on whatever you choose to do after graduation. I can't wait to read your stories.
